Manila Carabaos & HMCS Ottawa Friendly Game '06/10/08

(Visited 394 times)

The Manila Mighty Carabaos and HMCS Ottawa Canadian Navy had a friendly game at the Mall of Asia last June 7 at 10am. They wore the same color of jersey, so its a little bit confusing. 1st period was so intense. Ottawa scored 2 in the first 15 minutes of the game. But we had high hopes for the home team, specially when Andre Gan of Manila team scored its first goal. The crowd, spectators, and supporters shouted and cheered for the Manila team. It was fun watching the crowd because I think it was their first time to watch a real hockey game here in the Philippines. They were curious to see how Filipino hockey players (who live in a tropical country) play against Canadian players (where they live and breathe ice hockey), whether the crowd know the rules and how hockey is played, or just there to support and cheer for the Carabaos. The crowd inspired the Manila players to play their best. And it paid off! Last period of the game was the most exciting part and they tied at 3-3. Then followed by hockey shootout. Manila scored 2 while Canada scored 1. Twas a 5-4 victory for the Manila team.

Congratulations Manila Carabaos!!! Thanks to HMCS Ottawa team, hope you enjoy your stay in Manila.

A Hockey Visitor from Alaska '02/25/08

(Visited 762 times)

Filipino-American, Rudy Molina, visited the country for a vacation last month. He contacted me through my website last December and he was surprised to know that there is hockey here in the Philippines. He’s a Forward/Defense player from Alaska, playing for the U.S. Air Force Base Team here (the Elmendorf Eagles / Raptors). He wanted to try out ice hockey here so he brought in his gear. Anyways, he played some Fridays (with Bantam and Men’s team in Megamall), Saturdays (with Manila Ice Vixens in Megamall), and Mondays (with International / Expats / really good players in Mall of Asia). It was cool hanging out with him and exchanging ideas about hockey. Also, he made new friends with almost everyone at the rink hehe.. Oh btw, he donated cages and gloves too. Thanks for that, Rudy!

Anyhow, hope you’ll visit us again soon. Thanks for being a part of MIV! ;)

Motorola RAZR 2 Event '08/26/07

(Visited 1318 times)

Marc and I were supposed to go to Metrowalk to meet up with Abe, Gail, Marc V., and some other bloggers to chill. But he already went there the other night. So we thought of changing venue instead. As we drove along Julia Vargas and was looking for a new place to hang out, I remembered Jayvee invited us last Taste Asia event to party with them the next day at Temple in Greenbelt 2 for a Motorola RAZR 2 event. So, we went there instead. We missed the dinner party at Mezze because we came in late, so we just had a few drinks there and chilled with Sasha, Rico, Jayvee and his friend, Anna. Then we headed off at Temple to party at the VIP booth. It was insane! We all had fun (I think) hehe.. Who wouldn’t right? With all those free-flowing-booze and food (thanks to Ogilvy.com). I also got a freebie from Motorola woohoo… :P

Of course thanks to SM Hypermart for hosting the event. Also, my favorite party booth… The Cliquebooth was there to lighten up the camwhores (including me) haha. ;)

We went to Pandaquit, Zambales last stormy weekend. The typhoon didn’t stop us from going to the beach because we were too eager to watch the surfing competition.

festival-poster.jpg

‘Twas a long road trip that night as we passed by flooded areas and traffic jam up North. But we didn’t give up. Marc was too determined and even willing to risk Sophie (his car) to dive into flood haha… We continued our long journey just to reach our destination.

We finally reached Pandaquit safely. Here are some photos of the surfers and boogie-board-wannabe. Enjoy! ;)

World Ice Hockey 5’s 2007 is now over '06/20/07

(Visited 2160 times)

Manila Ice Vixens didn’t win the World Ice Hockey 5’s 2007 this year, but we went home with pride. Considering that this was MIV’s first international competition, a lot of teams told us we did pretty well and that made us feel really good. We really had fun in HK. We made friends with almost all of the Women’s team like Japan Red Bullets, Malaysian Slayers, Macau Mystiks, Wndigos, Macau Asian All-Stars (Macau and Singapore) and HK WIHO Selects also with some other teams from International A, B and Asian A and B.

Hockey tourney in Malaysia ‘06 '05/30/06

(Visited 7403 times)

DSC00872[1].jpg

World Ice Hockey 5’s in Malaysia last May 2 - 6, 2006 was a blast! 50 countries from all over the world participated in that event. For the women’s hockey, 4 countries composed of 4 teams from Hong Kong WIHO, Malaysia Slayers, Singapore Blizzards & ASIAN STARS (5 players from Manila, 2 from Macau & 4 from HK). Due to incomplete members of the Asian Stars team, the coaches of Manila and HK decided to combine players. We didn’t expect we’d win the tourney because: 1 - we didn’t know the other players, which was difficult for us to adjust. 2 - we thought that language barrier would be a problem (but turned out that everyone speaks English fluently). 3 - we didn’t have the time to practice before the tourney. So in short, we had doubts about our teams capabilities.

Our 1st game started around 11:30pm, we were tired, nervous and uneasy because ’twas our 1st game. But thank God, we won against the Singaporean Blizzards 1-0. Considering that most of their players were imports from China, USA and Canada and they had the tallest and oldest players. We played our part and we really worked as a team.

Our 2nd game was a match with KL (home). We lost 4-3. But at least our defense was strong. Actually, it was a very interesting game considering thee home-court advantage, we out skated them and our defense was up. Again, they also have the strongest players from Japan and Canada.

Our 3rd game was a little biased because some members of the Asian Stars are from WIHO. But its ok. Really. ;)

Semi-finals. Asian Stars vs Malaysian Slayers. We lost unfortunately! But it’s ok. We still got the 3rd place over-all. No worries! Vixens will be back next year… with the rest of the Philippine women’s team mwehehe… :p

Oh btw, thanks to David Kong (our HK coach) for coaching us. ‘Twas worth an experience. Also, thanks for the team dinner. Would like to commend Albert Lee for the nice shots from our games. We looked like pros. ;) And to coach Paul for assisting and supporting us. Till next year! :)
