2008 Mega Ice 5’s HK Tourney '05/16/08
(Visited 559 times)The tournament was held at Mega Ice, Megabox in Hong Kong last May 6 to 10. We arrived in HK safely last May 4 (two days before the tourney), checked in at Regal Oriental Hotel, grabbed food, then took a nap because we were all exhausted from the trip.

Day 2, we went to Shenzhen China to go shopping. Ended up being lost and cannot find Dongmen Road. Good thing, we bumped at 2 Filipinas and helped us go to Dongmen. The place really is a shopping haven. After shopping, we couldn’t get out of Dongmen because it was raining hard and we couldn’t find a cab. We were stranded for 2 hours and we were lost again. ‘Twas like Amazing Race between 2 teams. Team 1 composed of Kae, Ace and Anne. Then team 2 composed of Jho, Chriska and me. We didn’t get to see them there, we tried to call them but to no reply. But we know they were ahead of us. Anyhow, we asked around but no one understands or speaks English. I asked this guy who speaks a little English but still couldn’t help us. Good thing, a girl heard us talking and she pointed us to the right direction. We took the train instead which connected us to HK terminal. We reached the pit stop first (hotel). Team 1 were more than an hour behind us haha.. ‘Twas a good race and an adventure we’ll never forget.

Day 4, 2nd game with Japan. We lost again 9-1 but our team did really well compared to last year 16-0. Well of course, we all know that Japan is a strong team but we did our best and it was a fair game.

The 2008 Mega Ice 5’s Ice Hockey Tournament '04/9/08
(Visited 437 times)The Manila Ice Vixens is going to the 2008 Mega Ice 5’s Tournament and will be held from May 4 to 12 in Hong Kong. The tournament will feature over 60 ice hockey teams around the world. The first international tournament of MIV was last May 2006 in KL, Malaysia. The WIHO won the 1st place, Malaysia Slayers placed 2nd and the Asian Stars (composed of 12 players from the Philippines, Hong Kong and Macau) placed 3rd overall. Tourney details H-E-R-E.
Then the 2nd tournament was The World Ice Hockey 5’s held in Hong Kong last June 2007. We didn’t win but it was a great experience for the 13 all-Filipino players. Details H-E-R-E.
Now, we’re preparing for another international tournament. We have 5 new players so we’re looking forward to a better competition. The tournament is fast approaching and we still have less than a month to practice. Can’t wait to meet the other teams from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan and Macau again. I know Manila Ice Vixens will do better this time because we’ve been practicing really hard.

(Visited 2057 times)We went to Pandaquit, Zambales last stormy weekend. The typhoon didn’t stop us from going to the beach because we were too eager to watch the surfing competition.
‘Twas a long road trip that night as we passed by flooded areas and traffic jam up North. But we didn’t give up. Marc was too determined and even willing to risk Sophie (his car) to dive into flood haha… We continued our long journey just to reach our destination.
We finally reached Pandaquit safely. Here are some photos of the surfers and boogie-board-wannabe. Enjoy!

(Visited 822 times)So far, I’ve traveled the tip to the southern part of the Philippines. But thats not enough. I still have a lot of places to go to, explore new places and bring good news to everyone who wants to travel the Philippines. Marc and I promised to travel the tourist spots here before exploring overseas because we have to see the beauty of the Philippines first. Now that’s what we call loving our own country. Also, I want to have an A+ grade haha…
My Lakbayan grade is B-!

World Ice Hockey 5’s 2007 is now over '06/20/07
(Visited 2160 times)Manila Ice Vixens didn’t win the World Ice Hockey 5’s 2007 this year, but we went home with pride. Considering that this was MIV’s first international competition, a lot of teams told us we did pretty well and that made us feel really good. We really had fun in HK. We made friends with almost all of the Women’s team like Japan Red Bullets, Malaysian Slayers, Macau Mystiks, Wndigos, Macau Asian All-Stars (Macau and Singapore) and HK WIHO Selects also with some other teams from International A, B and Asian A and B.

The Terminal 2 and Amazing Race Experience '04/27/07
(Visited 769 times)We missed our flight going to Cebu via Cebu Pacific because our flight was scheduled at 9pm but we arrived at the airport 30 minutes before the flight (due to unavoidable circumstances). Based on our previous trips, Cebu Pacific usually allowed passengers to check-in 30 minutes before the trip. So, we were confident enough to make that trip, but we were surprised to know that they already closed the flight and that they let the chance passengers in. Unfortunately, that was the last flight for the day and that the next available flight would be on a Sunday. We kinda panicked and checked out other airlines to book for the earliest flight the next day because we don’t want to miss the tour as well. So, we called out every domestic airlines we could possibly think of. Also checked out fares and availability through Marc’s laptop via Globe visibility (Thank God he brought the laptop with him).
After an hour of calling and surfing, Marc finally booked us a flight for 8am the next day via Air Philippines. It was twice the price difference from our one way ticket to Cebu, but it didn’t matter anyways for as long as we get to Cebu the next day, money wasn’t a problem. The only catch was, we had to get the tickets 3 hours before the trip. Since we already learned our lesson and we didn’t want to miss out the opening of the ticketing office (because they might give out our slots), we’ve decided to spend the night at the airport ala “The Terminal” with a twist of Amazing Race type. We were at the Terminal 2 at around 10pm, then we had to wait for the ticketing office to open by 3am, and we had to wait 5 more hours before the flight… So, a total of 10 hours of waiting at the airport and 10 hours of no sleep for me at all. Marc just slept the whole time while I had to look after the bags and track the time the whole night till sunrise. Lesson learned: Adjust your time 5 hours prior to your flight schedule. :p

I wasn’t expecting we would go back to Puerto Galera this year. It was a short notice, a lot of thinking, and 4 days of deciding… BUT good thing we came. The last time I’ve been there was 2 years ago (thrice) and it came to a point that I don’t want to go back to PG for a while. Anyways, the whole week was so exhausting, stressful and had sleepless nights because I had to take my cousins (from US and Canada) out for almost everyday.

Hockey tourney in Malaysia ‘06 '05/30/06

World Ice Hockey 5’s in Malaysia last May 2 - 6, 2006 was a blast! 50 countries from all over the world participated in that event. For the women’s hockey, 4 countries composed of 4 teams from Hong Kong WIHO, Malaysia Slayers, Singapore Blizzards & ASIAN STARS (5 players from Manila, 2 from Macau & 4 from HK). Due to incomplete members of the Asian Stars team, the coaches of Manila and HK decided to combine players. We didn’t expect we’d win the tourney because: 1 - we didn’t know the other players, which was difficult for us to adjust. 2 - we thought that language barrier would be a problem (but turned out that everyone speaks English fluently). 3 - we didn’t have the time to practice before the tourney. So in short, we had doubts about our teams capabilities.

Our 1st game started around 11:30pm, we were tired, nervous and uneasy because ’twas our 1st game. But thank God, we won against the Singaporean Blizzards 1-0. Considering that most of their players were imports from China, USA and Canada and they had the tallest and oldest players. We played our part and we really worked as a team.

Our 2nd game was a match with KL (home). We lost 4-3. But at least our defense was strong. Actually, it was a very interesting game considering thee home-court advantage, we out skated them and our defense was up. Again, they also have the strongest players from Japan and Canada.

Our 3rd game was a little biased because some members of the Asian Stars are from WIHO. But its ok. Really.

Semi-finals. Asian Stars vs Malaysian Slayers. We lost unfortunately! But it’s ok. We still got the 3rd place over-all. No worries! Vixens will be back next year… with the rest of the Philippine women’s team mwehehe… :p

Shoutout to Au, Shaba, Megan, Michelle, Alysson, Patty, Alex, Meh, Kae, Ann, Babing, Chaya, Christine, Chriska, Jami, & etc. Louann, Jhoanna, Kit and Jessica of course (putra jaya!). I know we will win in the next year’s league. “Haki na toh!”

Oh btw, thanks to David Kong (our HK coach) for coaching us. ‘Twas worth an experience. Also, thanks for the team dinner. Would like to commend Albert Lee for the nice shots from our games. We looked like pros.
And to coach Paul for assisting and supporting us. Till next year!
