Skating and Photo Ops in MOA '05/24/07
(Visited 2567 times)Since our tourney in HK is fast approaching, we’ve decided to practice skating on an Olympic-size skating rink. I know that the team has been training really hard for the past 7 months in Megamall skating rink, but that’s not enough. We really need to train in MOA skating rink because it is the 1st Olympic-size skating rink in Asia and it’ll be an advantage for us. Anyways, here are some fun and exciting shots with my hockey friends Au (my skating coach), Louann, Allyson and Chriska. Je, Anne and Rachell were also there. Enjoy!Ü

We had our time out from our Ice Hockey training for the past 7 months and we’ve decided to have our summer outing at Yo and Mo in Tanay, Rizal from May 12 and 13. One of our team mate, Denzel, offered their rest house for an overnight stay last weekend. Check out the pics below.

Manila Ice Vixens were invited to appear on “Lovely Day” at GMA 7 last March 17, 2007. We would like to THANK the newbies and men’s team for their participation and for helping us during our scimmage and training. We really had a blast shooting the show. Hopefully, we get to have more sponsors and shows to come.. wink.. wink.. :p

Letter from Mr. Kramer '03/8/07
(Visited 3070 times)I was really surprised upon reading this letter…
To Sharmskee & the Manila Ice Vixens ice hockey organization –
Dear Ladies,
Very briefly –Your “puckin’ passion” and sincerity is VERY winning indeed!
Our company, AWSM Endeavors, Ltd.* (”AWSM”), which specializes in international cultural exchange/entertainment/event-building, especially through the games of ice and ‘inline’ hockey, might be interested in becoming a “title” Ice Vixens Corporate Sponsor. AWSM would be willing to start with an initial sponsorship of $10,000 U.S. Dollars (USD = 490,614.62 PHP today!),PLUS a 30-set, FULL “Pro” kitting (”custom” team pants, gloves, helmets, sticks, bags, “Home” & “Away” game jerseys & socks, etc.) of the Manila Ice Vixens program based upon the Manila Ice Vixens commitment to travel-to and represent AWSM (and AWSM events) around the world. This would involve at least 2 - 3 international tournament/events per year (at least 1 European and maybe 1 Asian, North American or elsewhere). AWSM would help in fund-raising for traveling to these international events.
We would also be interested in organizing a women’s international “pursed” (MONEY!) tournament/event in the Philippines — one of the VERY FIRST of its kind in the international women’s game (as AWSM is already doing the FIRST-EVER elsewhere!). This tournament/event could be held in Manila (and probably in the Spring, late-April or early-May), wherever and whenever we both feel would be better for such an international event. If we are successful with both our association with the Manila Ice Vixens and in staging a women’s international tournament/event in the Phillipines, we would be willing to further ‘grow’ both our sponsorship,
the event “purse” and the Manila Ice Vixens programs through additional financial commitment, maybe even on an ongoing “annual” basis. Our telephone contact: I will forward on once we have your direct response via e-mail.
With both the $10,000 USD cash sponsorship and the 30-set equipment donation this “AWESOME” sponsorship package totals well over $35,000 USD (1,717, 151.16 PHP to start!). This is a very serious and sincere inquiry and we would hope that our e-mail, interest and offer will be replied to one way or another.
Looking forward to your reply…
Regards,
Michael A. Kramer
President, AWSM Endeavors, Ltd.
It didn’t end there… more email from Mr. Kramer
Upcoming World Ice Hockey 5’s '12/11/06
(Visited 8854 times)After months of waiting for the announcement from the organizers of World Ice Hockey 5’s 2007 as to when and where it’ll be held, finally, the long wait is over. The event will be on June 13 to 17, 2007 in Kowloon Bay, HK and we’re really excited to represent our country. Our team, Manila Ice Vixens, will join the womens division and this will be the first time that the Women’s Ice Hockey Association of the Philippines to compete in an International Tourney.
We started practicing for this tourney a couple of months now and I’m proud to say that we’re doing better and better each week. The last Hockey 5’s was held in KL, Malaysia and it was a blast. The Asian Stars team (HK, Manila and Macau combined players) placed 3rd overall. This time, the hockey girls from the Philippines will rock the ice in 2007. Hopefully, the Philippines will make the country proud like what Manny Pacquiao did.
Btw, we need sponsors! To those hockey-addict-readers of my blog who would willingly sponsor our talented and pretty hockey players (MIV) may get in touch with me through email or ym. ID is sharmskee. Thanks in advance!

Hockey tourney in Malaysia ‘06 '05/30/06

World Ice Hockey 5’s in Malaysia last May 2 - 6, 2006 was a blast! 50 countries from all over the world participated in that event. For the women’s hockey, 4 countries composed of 4 teams from Hong Kong WIHO, Malaysia Slayers, Singapore Blizzards & ASIAN STARS (5 players from Manila, 2 from Macau & 4 from HK). Due to incomplete members of the Asian Stars team, the coaches of Manila and HK decided to combine players. We didn’t expect we’d win the tourney because: 1 - we didn’t know the other players, which was difficult for us to adjust. 2 - we thought that language barrier would be a problem (but turned out that everyone speaks English fluently). 3 - we didn’t have the time to practice before the tourney. So in short, we had doubts about our teams capabilities.

Our 1st game started around 11:30pm, we were tired, nervous and uneasy because ’twas our 1st game. But thank God, we won against the Singaporean Blizzards 1-0. Considering that most of their players were imports from China, USA and Canada and they had the tallest and oldest players. We played our part and we really worked as a team.

Our 2nd game was a match with KL (home). We lost 4-3. But at least our defense was strong. Actually, it was a very interesting game considering thee home-court advantage, we out skated them and our defense was up. Again, they also have the strongest players from Japan and Canada.

Our 3rd game was a little biased because some members of the Asian Stars are from WIHO. But its ok. Really.

Semi-finals. Asian Stars vs Malaysian Slayers. We lost unfortunately! But it’s ok. We still got the 3rd place over-all. No worries! Vixens will be back next year… with the rest of the Philippine women’s team mwehehe… :p

Shoutout to Au, Shaba, Megan, Michelle, Alysson, Patty, Alex, Meh, Kae, Ann, Babing, Chaya, Christine, Chriska, Jami, & etc. Louann, Jhoanna, Kit and Jessica of course (putra jaya!). I know we will win in the next year’s league. “Haki na toh!”

Oh btw, thanks to David Kong (our HK coach) for coaching us. ‘Twas worth an experience. Also, thanks for the team dinner. Would like to commend Albert Lee for the nice shots from our games. We looked like pros.
And to coach Paul for assisting and supporting us. Till next year!

I miss playing hockey… '02/6/06

I watched Miracle, Cutting Edge and Mighty Ducks 1 & 2 for four straight days this week. I don’t know why, but it gave me the urge to play again. I know, I abandoned the sport for 8 months now, that’s because I convinced myself that now is the time to retire and to find another sport. Yep! I told a few people that I’m retiring but you know, I’ve been saying that for a couple of years but I keep on coming back. I thought about it and I guess as long as I’m physically fit and can still carry my gears, I’m still going to play… no matter what they say about my age.
I can’t let go of that sport easily because that’s the only sport I have spent and invested in, from my gears to coach fee and to game fees. Like what other people say, ice hockey is one of the most expensive sport in the Philippines that’s why not all people can play hockey.

Before, I was into figure skating when my friend, Au, recruited me and asked me to join the first batch of women’s hockey team. I was convinced and inspired to join because my brother PJ and cousin Mike had played hockey too. The first time I attended the training, I don’t have my gears yet, so I had no choice but to use my figure skates and borrowed gears from my cousin. I really looked stupid but they were amazed to see me skate so fast (thanks to my toe pick).

I remember six year back, ANC Channel interviewed me about Ice Hockey here in the Philippines. Imagine, I was chosen among other veteran players for that interview which made me really proud. I still have the recorded tape though coz it was my first time to be seen on tv. Oops, actually twas my 2nd time (the other tv guesting was kinda horrible
) Anyways, SM Megamall Ice Hockey players were featured on tv shows like Magandang Umaga Bayan, ANC news & Unang Hirit. We were really in demand at that time. Those were the days…

Anyhow, I hope this blog reaches my former team “Vixens” for us to re-group and start playing pucks again. My shout out to Jhoanna, Tin, Michelle, Louann, Au, Rosel, Shaba, Alex, Patty, Chaya, Mutz, Megan, Meh & Christine). Also, my new team, “Wingers” (I must admit, I haven’t really practiced with the new team but will start to practice soon.) Hi to Kae, Babing, Allyson, Kriska, Anne, Michelle, Jessica, Dani, Kit & Jami. Hello also to the men’s hockey team “Black Wolves”.
