SM Megamall Ice Skating Rink is CLOSING DOWN! '06/17/09
(Visited 2398 times)My home rink, the SM Megamall ice skating rink is closing down for good on August 31, 2009. The rink opened in 1991 and produced a lot of promising skaters. This will be a very sad moment for the Megamall skaters. From 3 rinks (Megamall, Mall of Asia, and Southmall), now down to 2. I had a lot of good memories there. I started my figure skating lessons back in 2000. Then joined ice hockey in 2001. The rink is unique. It has a huge post in the middle. But it is the first ice skating rink in the Philippines and the home rink of a lot of hockey teams (Manila Ice Vixens, Blackwolves, Comets, Voyagers, Beezers, Wingers, etc.) and figure skaters. I still can’t believe it’s closing down. A lot of skaters have already expressed their sentiments to their coaches and management that they will not continue skating anymore, because the other 2 rinks are too far. But we really can’t do anything to stop the closing. Anyhow, would like to share some photos from 2001 to 2009.
Good bye, Megamall ISR!!! ![]()

good bye mega ice skating rink
damnnn… it reminds me way back in 1997 or 1998 when sm cebu close the ice skating ring, bec. of that i stop iceskating too and move on to skateboarding instead ( T___T)
We’re gonna miss that rink
but what is he main reason for closing the rink permanently? I also skate there too, I also have a lots of memories there, with some of my friends, skaters and coaches >.
This just shows how the management doesn’t care about heritage. I’d rather they close the poorly designed MOA scating rink that melts under the sun.
how could that be?what’s the reason? too bad..
oh wow…I skated there back in 97-98, as well as Sta. Lu. People just don’t believe the column in the middle of the rink. I would go down to the rink to meet up with friends and skate for a bit then play video games…and eat (I was constantly eating).
kaasar talaga ang pagsasara ng mega ISR. >.
That’s sad… I hope SM Mega will have another ISR in the future.
hi! i used to skate a lot there way back in high school (i’m now 20++ hehe). what’s the main reason of permanently closing the rink?
so its true pala talaga! how sad! i have so many memories on that rink. are they gonna close the southmall rink as well?
awww..nag skate kami yesterday (08/29)..confirmed na hanggang ngayon na lang talaga rink
sarado na sa monday
That’s pretty sad…I used to be a WINGER #15 (w/coach Ray) way back in 97′,98′, and 99′. I love that rink. Looking @ your pictures brings back memories, like the SM South Mall vs. SM Megamall vs. Sta Lucia games, Friday late-night hockey game sessions, Saturday early morning practice sessions, and Sunday noon time ones too. So much have changed judging by the looks of the Ice Rink itself. I don’t even recognize most of the people in the pictures. But then again, it’s been a long time since I’ve been back home. Nice (but sad) article though. =) Definitely gonna’miss that Ice Rink.
