Hey Sharmskee!

Great blog you have here! My name is Andrew, I’m 24 and I’m a Filipino-Canadian from Montreal. I’m staying in Makati right now and I’m interested in playing some hockey here. I’d love to play but I don’t know where to get some good skates and equipment. Do you know where I can find equipment here in the Philippines and which league can I join?

Thanks a lot!

Hey,
My name is Mike Medved. I live in Denver, Colorado. My daughter Kacee sent you / your team a hello message some time ago and got a nice message back.
I just saw a mention of an international women’s hockey tournament in Manila in July. Do you know who it would be open to,age limit, and the competition level?
Also, do you know if there is any future plan for a national Philippine team to compete internationally? Our daughters play for a very competitive girls hockey organization which participates at the highest levels of USA hockey. Kacee played in the National championships last year. See their web site: coloradogirlshockey.com My daughters ( ages 9 and 13) should have their dual Philippine citizenship in the next year or so. Kacee would love to tryout for a national team in the next few years if available.
Thank you.
Mike

Hi Mike! Yes, I remember Kacee. It’s nice to meet hockey players specially women around the world. Yes, we’re going to have an international ice hockey tournament in July here in Manila. There will be several divisions (Men’s international, Asian division and womens division).

Yes, we do have Philippine team who compete internationally (6-7 teams from squirts, bantam, women, men) twice a year. Actually, there’s an upcoming international tournament on May 5-9 in Hong Kong. It’s the biggest international tournament in Asia. More than 65 teams around the world participated in that event last year. Womens team has no age limit (I think 13 and above). We have a team mate who joined us when she was 13. Now, she’s 15 years old. Your 9 year old can join the Bantam division (mixed) though. Hopefully your daughters can join the tourney in HK as well.

If you have more queries, you can email me at sharmskee@yahoo.com. Thanks!
